The Walking Trails application allows the public to find County parks, trails, recreation centers, and even private locations suitable for walking, such as shopping malls. Users can search by park or facility name, community, or ZIP code, or browse by geographic area on an integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) map. The map features pinpoints that when selected provide more information on the specified site, complete with a link to directions via Google Maps. Listings include a description of the site, contact information, links to the trail’s website, featured trails and, in most cases, downloadable site maps. This application is a joint effort between the Baltimore County Office of Information Technology (OIT) and Department of Recreation and Parks. This project is part of the Baltimore County Health Coalition’s action plan to promote physical activity.
