The Volusia County Citizen’s Academy is a fun, hands-on awareness program designed to educate and inform citizens about how Volusia County Government works and operates. Academy participants spend more than 100 hours of their time learning about the internal operations of County government through a wide range of presentations and workshops. Topics addressed include elections, growth management, public protection, property assessments, and budgeting. Citizens ride with the County’s Beach Patrol, trek through local parks, and shadow County administrators and elected officials for a close look at our organization’s daily activities. The Citizens Academy is free and offered once a year. It is limited to 25 participants, and applicants are asked to commit to the entire 12-week program.
