The Carver County “Victoria Express Library” offers a place where patrons can order, pick up, and return library materials, using a self-service kiosk, locker system, and book return. Carver County partnered with the City of Victoria to place the Express Library in the City’s Recreation Center. Carver County Library partnered with Washington County Library in applying for a federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant in 2009. The purpose of this grant was to examine barriers to accessing library services caused by the distance from a branch library and provide access to library services in two non-traditional community settings. By partnering together the two county library systems were able to test the different venues by providing access to library services through self-contained systems and components that allow library customers access to library materials and electronic access through self-service lockers and a computer terminal.
