Los Angeles County's Urban Tree Climbing Program is a free program offered to children and adults of all ages, aimed primarily at enlightening community members and park patrons on the importance of trees and how to climb them safely. The program was developed to help build the confidence and self-esteem of the park patrons and to help them lead healthier lives. The Urban Tree Climbing program is now also offered to children and adults with disabilities to enhance their lives with the beauty and magnificence of the local trees. Tree education has been incorporated into this program as well, including safety lessons on knot tying, common botanical names of the trees, and how to properly respect the trees in the park. The program offers patrons a new, fun way to stay healthy in both mind and body, as the climbing provides a challenging work out. Additionally, it operates as an effective and non-traditional means to cultivate environmental responsibility within the County.
