About the Program

Category: Parks and Recreation (Best in Category)

Year: 2021

After four years of renewed negotiations, which began as initial outreach in the 1990s, Boulder County acquired a 324-acre pristine property known as the Tucker property in October of 2020. The property is one of the last large pieces of land in the Nederland, Colorado area, and it was acquired for $3,170,000. The land is predominantly forested land with independent meadows and wetland/riparian areas, and the acquisition includes a historic cabin built in 1871. The Tucker acquisition removed eight development rights associated with the property, which greatly helps limit potential growth, thereby helping to protect and preserve the natural resources in the area. The Tucker acquisition is one of many exemplary projects the Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department has completed in its 40+-year history to protect the open spaces for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.
