Year: 2010

The Treasure Hunters Program of Hamilton County raised awareness of the many natural resources within Chester Frost Park and was presented through a historical timeline perspective as well as hand-on learning activities for school-aged children and their parents. From consideration of fossils, artifacts, rocks and minerals to identification of animals living in Chester Frost Park based on tracks and habitat evidence, program participants were introduced to the studies of geology, paleontology and other environmental sciences in a unique manner not afforded in typical school curriculums. The initial focus on Chester Frost Park was then a springboard to discussions regarding additional points of interest both within Hamilton County and in surrounding areas, such as fossil sites in various locations. Held in two summer sessions two hours in length, the program was developed and facilitated by Recreation Specialists working for the county. Feedback provided to the staff at the close of each session was extremely positive from both students and adults alike.
