Mohave County, Arizona maintains an ongoing Traffic Speed Management Program, which employs various, innovative traffic control solutions toward reducing traffic speed without physical control. Mohave County Public Works administers the Traffic Speed Management Program with review and support through the Mohave County Traffic Safety Committee. The Traffic Safety Committee convenes monthly to review and make recommendation on public service comments, fatal and select injury crashes, and engineering studies involving the installation, modification, or removal of any traffic control device on County maintained roads. The Committee includes representatives of Mohave County Public Works, Sheriffâs Office, and Risk Management. The Traffic Speed Management Program has yielded significant contributions to engineering practice through innovative solutions producing marked reduction in traffic speed through target road sections. Examples include a nationally recognized application of an optical speed zone and installation of radar-actuated driver feedback speed limit signs leading to Federal Highway Administration approval of Highway Safety Improvement Program funding toward expanding sign deployments and producing a new crash reduction factor to benefit all counties pursuing similar federally funded traffic speed management solutions.
