The Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Teen Podcasting Program (TPP) is designed to provide high school students, in high-need areas of Miami-Dade County, the opportunity to learn and gain digital skills working with professional audio hardware and software in the production of weekly audio shows. Working as a team, the teens experience first-hand their innate creativity and ability to express their viewpoints in a nurturing and collaborative environment. Since the launching of the program in 2016, teens visiting the North Dade and South Dade Regional Libraries have participated in over 40 podcast workshops and have made the resulting episodes available for streaming online. The podcasts cover a wide range of topics important to teens in Miami-Dade County. The podcasts range from debates about the best hip-hop artists and blockbuster summer movies to serious in-depth discussions on the state of race relations and gun control in the United States.
