The County of San Bernardino Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) in partnership with the Department of Workforce Development (WDD) and Technical Employment Training (TET), Inc. developed a public-private partnership to provide specialized technical training for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients to assist them in meeting federal Work Participation Rates (WPR) and in attaining unsubsidized employment to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The TET program proved to be a highly effective facilitated training specifically aimed at matching local employerâs skill needs with the TANF workforce. The first training provided in 2011 resulted in 41.4% of participants obtaining unsubsidized employment immediately following training completion and technical certification. Of the participants who obtained unsubsidized employment 83.3% have been discontinued from TANF. This high rate of employment and transition off of public assistance, and the fact that some participants were offered employment prior to program completion, exceeded County expectations.
