The staff at the Twin Hickory area Library in Henrico County Virginia recently developed a workshop designed to inspire teens to pursue a career in education. When the local chapter of Teacher Cadets was seeking space and programming material for their annual meeting, the Twin Hickory Area Library offered its services. The library not only provided enough space for the crown of more than 150 students, but also addressed the students in a 90 minute workshop that motivated them to become excellent future teachers. A former teacher turned librarian led the workshop and energetically have advice on working with children and books. The instruction and the program captivated the high schoolers with humorous anecdotes from personal experiences as well as inspiring the students with examples of how teaches have truly changed lives. The program ended with a memorable and up-beat finale, completing a successful partnership and program between county agencies that greatly benefitted area high schoolers.
