The short-term rental tax automation and compliance program converted a manual, paper-based system to an automated system that tax payers can use at their convenience. The old system required tax payers to fill out a paper form to report gross income of short term lodging rentals and then mail the form with a check for reporting and payment of room occupancy tax. The new automated system allows taxpayers to set up an account with associated properties, report the gross income of those short-term lodging rental and make payment completely online. The program also utilizes software that reports short term rentals in our county which is then compared to the accounts set up by the taxpayers to ensure the county is capturing all the room occupancy tax revenues that is owed.
