ShelbyCares is a faith-based partnership with the Shelby County Office of Preparedness and Shelby County Mayorâs Office, integrating a real-world mission of sheltering displaced individuals and families during disasters. ShelbyCares is a non-profit, faith-based network that includes sixteen houses of worship: Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and Muslim. The anchor church is Hope Presbyterian, led by Senior Pastor Dr. Craig Strickland. Hope is a large church and one of tremendous influence in the Mid-South. Each house of worship, as members of the ShelbyCares network, must agree to a few simple guidelines: have a facility that will shelter a minimum of 150 people, have the ability to furnish volunteer shelter coordinators, understand and agree there will be NO governmental reimbursement for funds spend during a sheltering mission, and be able to pass fire code and health requirement inspections.
