Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2012

When a major emergency or disaster strikes in San Diego County, residents will have a new way to get critical, real-time information to make important decisions for themselves and their families. The County of San Diego's new emergency portal website provides the public with updates on evacuations, shelters, interactive maps, and other critical information delivered to wherever people are – at home, at work, or on a mobile device. The website is powered by Microsoft Windows Azure cloud computing technology, which features cutting-edge tools which improve the ability to provide crisis information to the public. The emergency portal website was developed with foundations based firmly in Emergency Public Information and Warnings best practices and lessons learned from 2003 and 2007 Firestorms. The emergency portal website leverages the County Office of Emergency Services’ (OES) expertise in the field of emergency management with Microsoft Windows Azure, through the developer talents of Adxstudio Portal Solutions, to provide a state-of-the-art emergency portal website that includes preparedness, response, and recovery information. As a result of this project, emergency management programs across the country can access the website template and adapt the template to their own locality.
