About the Program

Category: Health (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

Anne Arundel County established a “Safe Stations” program to enhance the quality of life for its residents who wish to seek help for their struggle with heroin/opioid addiction. The Safe Stations program designated each Anne Arundel County and Annapolis City fire and police station as a safe environment for individuals looking for assistance to start their path to recovery from heroin/opioid addiction. At any time, an Anne Arundel County resident who is the victim of a heroin/opioid addiction decides to ask for help, he can go to any County or City fire or police station and speak to personnel on duty. In close partnership with the County’s Crisis Response Team, individuals seeking help will be assisted in obtaining the necessary detoxification resources. County Executive Steve Schuh implemented the Safe Stations program to help combat the growing heroin and opioid crisis and to help those in crisis to get the treatment they need at the time they need it. Out of 24 jurisdictions in Maryland, Anne Arundel County ranks 3rd in the number of overdoses and deaths related to opioids.
