Year: 2020
Miami-Dade County's (County) Internal Services Department (ISD) Office of Safety (OOS) administers the Safe Driving Award program to sixteen (16) different Miami-Dade County departments. Out of the 16 participating departments, seven of them have 40 or more active drivers in the Safe Driving Awards program. Through positive reinforcement, the program promotes safe driving amongst county drivers. Employees in the participating departments who spend more than fifty percent (50%) of their work time driving County vehicles on the Miami-Dade County road are eligible to receive the Safe Driving Award. OOS reviews the Notice of Motor Vehicular Collision reports submitted from the various departments to determine accident preventability. The Safe Driver Award consists of a metal stamped pin that states the years of driving without a preventable accident. After five consecutive years of driving without a preventable accident, a monetary award is issued. OOS works with the Human Resources to distribute the Safe Driver Awards. To that end, OOS collaborated also with Information Technology Department's (ITD) who developed, a program that compiled data and keep track of the information received from departments. Ultimately the purpose of the program is to reinforce county drivers to operate county vehicles safely.
