Súper Kínder: listos para el kínder is a school readiness program for Latino children ages 4-5 and their parents/caregivers. Presented entirely in Spanish, the program successfully reached Spanish-speaking parents and children in a comfortable and culturally supportive library environment. A unique feature of Súper Kínder is its focus on improving educational outcomes for parents, teens and young children entering kindergarten. Ten families participated in the 10-session program. At each session, parents met with a parent educator to learn specific activities they could do at home to help their children prepare for school. The children (and their siblings) met with bilingual teens trained in leading engaging early literacy activities for groups of pre-kindergarten children, under the direction of the local youth services librarian. The program was developed in 2012 and offered at Hennepin County Library – Nokomis in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2013 the program expanded to Hennepin County Library – Oxboro in Bloomington, Minnesota.
