Broward Countyâs Records, Taxes, and Treasury Division (RTT) Recording Section is successfully providing a comprehensive four hour training program to all newly hired employees, and a four-hour refresher training for existing employees. This program encompasses negotiable items, foreign currency acceptance, and counterfeit bill procedures and training. There was an identified need to create a standardized training program that can be utilized for new hires and for existing employees. In order to determine the needs of the division when creating the training program, a two-month monitoring was conducted of checks returned for review due to non-negotiability or as a foreign item presented for payment. In addition, it was observed that not all employees were checking bills for possible counterfeits at the front counter. There was inconsistency in the understanding and checking bills to thwart possible counterfeit bill acceptance. This created a potential for financial loss to the County. Data regarding past counterfeit acceptance has not been maintained within the section. Data from training date forward will be maintained within the section in order to track future training needs and successes. Once the areas of concern were identified, a training program to address these areas was created and put into place as a mandatory training for all new hires and mandatory refresher training for existing employees.
