Librarians from Salt Lake County Library Services conduct storytimes at the Road Home’s Community Winter Shelter, a seasonal facility serving homeless families with children under 18. Our research based early literacy storytimes promote parental engagement, reading readiness, and the joy of books. This project is a simple, cost-effective program which can be easily and quickly implemented by other libraries. The Road Home Shelter Outreach Project has increased engagement with books, library use, and emergent literacy skills.
