In late 2015, the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Office unveiled their Property Records Notification (PRN) system. This first of its kind program allows users to sign up to receive an email when a document is recorded in the Register of Deeds Office with their chosen search term, including name, property identification number, or address, etc. Whereas other fraud alert systems use only names as search criteria and are updated quarterly, PRN allows any piece of information on a recorded document to serve as search criteria and is updated daily. With PRN, a homeowner will be notified in a timely manner and at no charge if a lien or other encumbrance is recorded on their property, thus better allowing the County and its citizens to help combat real estate fraud.
