In 2012, Leon County adopted a Refueling Assistance for Disabled Individuals program by ordinance to accommodate the needs of our community’s disabled drivers, who often require assistance when fueling their vehicles. Recognizing the need for these individuals to maintain a sense of independence and mobility, Leon County’s ordinance required gas stations with 10 or more fuel pumps to make at least two accessible with attendant assistance. At no cost to Leon County, this program has virtually eliminated citizen complaints and has significantly enhanced accessibility for disabled individuals at fuel pumps in our community.
