About the Program

Category: Personnel Management, Employment and Training (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

The Coconino County Professional Development Academies emerged as a streamlined program in 2016 and are the result of a revamped approach to training that meets the needs of employees as well as our organization. The program currently consists of 2 academies: Executive Leadership Academy (ELA) and Supervisor’s Development Academy (SDA). The target audience for the ELA are upper level management employees who are preparing for an assistant director, a deputy director or a director level position. This academy focuses on leadership style, critical thinking, and ethics among other topics. The SDA targets line managers and lead workers who are preparing for a supervisory position. The SDA focuses on operational, legal, supervisory and communication competencies. The Professional Development Academies are sponsored by Human Resources and the Coconino County Employee Growth and Development Committee and in addition to training on the competencies needed by new and experienced supervisors and managers, they provide networking opportunities for participants and build the foundation for future mentors with our organization. Attendance in ELA and SDA is the result of an application process where candidates need to demonstrate their potential for commitment to professional growth. Both academies are designed with their target audience in mind in a way that provides for a diverse cohort benefitting from true growth in skills and understanding of various subject matters as employees move up through their career.
