Pollworkers are the most important and necessary component of any successful Election Day. In a jurisdiction as populated and expansive as Los Angeles County, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) relies heavily on the 25,000+ pollworker volunteers whose dedication helps effectively service approximately 4.8 million registered voters. Depending on the assignment, pollworker volunteers receive a stipend between $80 and $175. Due to the extraordinary number of pollworkers needed in Los Angeles County, the estimated waiting period for an individual to receive the stipend took approximately six to eight weeks to process after Election Day. The delay in administering the stipend was largely burdened by the need to verify each pollworker’s handwritten information, followed by a long quality review structure. In response to this problem, the RR/CC initiated the Pollworker Payroll Pre-Printed Stipend Card, which effectively reduced the waiting period for payment by over 50%.
