The PolkSOR (Sex Offender Resource) web application is an online mapping resource that allows Polk County’s local sec offender compliance units to properly and accurately visualize and enforce the 2,000 foot law of registered sex offenders. The web application is fully interactive. The end user can pan, zoon, and search for different addresses, locations of registered sex offenders, schools and registered daycares. There are several different views available to the end user, which include a basic map view, Polk County’s local aerial imagery and the ability to view different years of aerial imagery for pre-planning when a check-up is required. Because this application is web-based, it can be accessed in the field by the local sex offender units. PolkSOR also has the ability to link back to the State of Iowa’s sex offender website to gather all of the required information about registered sex offenders that the sex offender compliance unit would need. The overall completion of PolkSOR promotes a proactive solution to enforce a law that brings safety and stability to the Polk County, Iowa community.
