The Pike County Jail Farm is an initiative created by the Pike County Fiscal Court and the Pike County Detention Center to reduce food costs associated with the Detention Center and the Pike County Senior Citizens Program. In less than one year, the amount of money the county has saved by creating the farm has paid for the cost to create it. Not only has the Jail Farm saved money, but it has also improved the work ethic and provided job training skills to the hundreds of Pike County Jail inmates who work on the farm. The County’s Jail Farm is the only farm in the state maintained and operated by a county jail utilizing inmate labor.
