The Pike County Heritage Hall is a large main hallway in the Pike County Courthouse dedicated to displaying the rich history of Pike County. Pictures, music and artifacts are on display in 10 large, secured display cases. The Heritage Hall is a collaborative effort among the Pike County Fiscal Court, the Pike County Library District, the Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum, the Shelby Valley Historical Society and private donors. The mirror-backed cabinets display items along with a certificate depicting the owner of the item in addition to the significance to Pike County’s history. To further enhance the exhibit’s effect, a 32 inch flat-screen television displays scrolling historic photographs with local significance accompanied by the music of the time-period. Comparable to a museum, the display cases contain rare and intriguing items, with each section being dedicated to a specific time period of Pike County’s history. With minimal startup costs, the Pike County Heritage Hall has demonstrated the rich and longstanding history of Pike County while garnering widespread attention and forging friendships and partnerships among local people and organizations that otherwise would have likely never cross paths.
