The Pike County Fallen Peace Officers Memorial located on the grounds of the historic Pike County Courthouse includes two exhibits; the Fallen Peace Officers Memorial Monument and the Sheriff Roy Conway Indoor Memorial. Through cooperation with the local Fraternal Order of Police, the University of Pikeville, individual police agencies and a number of volunteers interested in the project, the idea of the memorial evolved. Pike County Government established a new committee to oversee the project throughout and after construction. The hard work of many resulted in the creation of a 16 feet tall black granite obelisk monument dedicated to Pike County’s fallen heroes. Each fallen officer’s name is etched onto the monument and is organized by the agency for which they served. Pike County Government organized the creation of the Sheriff Roy Conway Indoor Memorial inside the Pike County Courthouse and the award winning Heritage Hallway. Each officer’s photo has been transferred onto a plaque displaying their name and detailing the story of their service. For more than two years, Pike County Government conducted research to gather the necessary materials and photographs to discover the 26 officer’s killed in the line of duty from 1911 to present.
