Recognizing the its benefits in regard to business recruitment and economic development, the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, which is located in Pike County, the Pike County Fiscal Court, fiscal courts of surrounding counties and the City of Pikeville agreed to allocate coal severance tax money to lure a commercial air service carrier to operate out of the Pikeville/Pike County Airport.
