Year: 2021

As the second largest jurisdiction in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Montgomery County, Maryland has a significant demand for parking in its urban core areas. The Department of Transportation's Division of Parking Management manages over 20,000 public parking spaces spread over three Parking Lot Districts and three Transportation Management Districts and serves a wide array of community needs. The COVID-19 pandemic was an unprecedented health crisis requiring immediate strategic decisions by the Division to enhance the safety and cleanliness in facilities, support local businesses and to provide resources and economic relief to the community all while operating with reduced expenses. While navigating through this unusual time, the Division took a multi -faceted approach to serving the community. Over the past year, the Division created curbside pickup zones, provided free parking in limited off-street facilities, suspended certain aspects of enforcement, enhanced cleaning services, lowered expenditures and reserved a level in a garage to facilitate public COVID-19 testing operations.
