Optimizing Services for Conservatees is a business model offering Conservatees and their family members the convenience of having multiple complex conservatorship needs met by a single entity, the San Bernardino County Office of the Public Guardian (PG). The PG in collaboration with the Countyâs Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) enhanced coordination and integration of conservatorship services by moving the Mental Health Conservatee Investigation Unit (CIU) from DBH under the auspices of the PG in May 2017. By CIU and PG coming together as one entity, CIU investigators are able to work with all involved staff to provide a more comprehensive wraparound service model to the Conservatees and work directly with the Deputy Public Guardian (Deputy) within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) model to properly address the Conservatees needs. Optimizing Services for Conservatees ensures the prompt availability of clinical assessments, by streamlining the process by which CIU investigators make these assessments available to PG staff in time for Conservatorship court hearings. Optimizing Services for Conservatees enables CIU and PG staff to interact in cohesion with community stakeholders and Conservatee family members to offer continuity in the provision of services and eliminate barriers in service delivery for Conservatees.
