As part Roanoke County’s enterprise level Geographic Information System (GIS), a new public-facing website has been developed to share open data. The County is committed to sharing data with the public to increase transparency, accountability and customer service and to empower companies, individuals and non-profit organizations with the ability to harness a vast array of useful information to improve life in the Roanoke Valley. The Open Data Application will help drive economic development, innovation and problem solving within the public and private sectors. Citizens will be able to more deeply understand and engage with their community. The Open Data Application leverages the County’s investment in the ArcGIS platform, therefore providing the capability to maintain the application in-house at minimum cost.
