About the Program
Category: Health (Best in Category)
Year: 2015
In October 2013, Wake County opened an on-site employee health center as part of an overall population health management strategy. The Employee Health Center (EHC) was implemented to optimize employeesâ health, increase productivity, and reduce healthcare cost. The program combines a collection of services tailored to the culture, setting, and workforce. Onsite primary care, health assessment, risk reduction coaching, disease management and wellness education come together to keep healthy employees healthy and target medium to high-risk individuals for early intervention. Employees are not required to take sick leave to visit the EHC and no copay fees are charged. Through education and access to a physician assistant, employees are empowered to make healthy lifestyle choices. These programs have led to 513 collective pounds lost and an increase in employee satisfaction of benefits. Other measures of success include 46% of participants returned for another service, 42% reduced Systolic Blood Pressure, 32% reduced hemoglobin, 15% of smoking participants quit. The EHC has provided over 5,100 services to employees. The program has resulted in reduced employee health care risks, lower insurance costs and less absenteeism. Its success has led to expanding both facilities to 40 hours and opening services to covered spouses in 2015.
