In 2011, the Oakland County Clerk’s office launched a new E-filing Services Center for citizens who file or search Oakland County Circuit Court records. E-filing has saved Oakland County taxpayers over a million dollars, by generating fees for using the system. Records that once took days to become available are now viewable by all the parties in minutes, making the court system more efficient, transparent, and accessible. The e-filing process however is new to many attorneys and they require individualized assistance that was very inconvenient to provide at the service counter. In addition, citizens representing themselves found the system very difficult. Also, the county has steadily increased the number of cases required to be e-filed in the past few years. This E-filing services center offers the public computer workstations and dedicated staff to assist with these needs. In addition, the public can use these workstations to access other county records, such as genealogical research and actions of the County Commission. Approximately 5,000 customer visits were logged during the first three months the Efiling Service Center was open. The computer workstations are generally in use throughout the business day. The office has been the subject of many complimentary letters from customers who found the staff and the services very helpful.
