The term “nuisance property” refers to a building in which certain types of illegal activity take place or where the conditions unreasonably endanger or reduce the quality of life for the surrounding neighborhood or community. Geographical Information Services (GIS) partnered with the County Attorney’s Office IT team to add a GIS mapping component to the “Conduct On Premises – Nuisance” SharePoint website. The goal was to display a map that showed the locations of nuisance properties in Hennepin County, along with supporting information; police calls, police reports, tax records, rental license info and housing violations. The COP-N SharePoint site is a single-source, ‘real-time’ content management solution which places pertinent nuisance/problem property information into the hands of the participating agencies in a timely manner. The website contains both the top problem properties currently being monitored and the properties that were previously monitored. The Nuisance Property mapping application allows agencies to better visualize the physical landscape and relative property data in and around identified nuisance properties, thereby helping personnel formulate appropriate response tactics.
