Tarrant County, TX was faced with the dilemma that over a 6-year period most of themajor local roads will be under construction. This construction will alter constituents daily lives, their commute, and the way they conduct business. Mobility and congestion impact residents every day. Road conditions affect the ability to move people and goods effectively throughout the area, with over 200,000 cars and commercial trucks traveling local thoroughfares daily. According to the 2010 census, Precinct 3 in Northeast Tarrant County has grown 25% in this decade and is home to 19 cities, 6 school districts, almost 500,000 residents plus 3 of the most congested areas in the entire state: Airport Freeway (SH183), Loop 820/IH-35, and the DFW Connector that joins SH 121, SH 26, SH 114 and Loop 635 north of DFW Airport. Realizing that area residents and businesses craved timely information, Tarrant County Precinct 3 Commissioner Gary Fickes created the Northeast Tarrant Transportation Summit. Held in 2010, 2011, and 2012, it has continued to provide an open forum for community leaders and residents to hear the latest updates on the progress of these major arteries that drive such heavy traffic, and the status of future transportation plans.
