The Potter County Commissioners/Department of Veterans Affairs set out to address the unique needs of those who have served in a military capacity under the overarching theme, âNo Soldier Left Behind.â It was borne out of a realization that by and large the agencies, organizations and other entities responsible for the well-being of our veterans and active-duty military personnel -- as well as their families -- were not coordinating their activities or communicating effectively. This concerted mission began with a local focus, but its ripple has spread to widening circles of partnerships and successes stretching to the state capital of Harrisburg, Pa., and Washington, D.C. Communication barriers have been removed. Activities are better-coordinated. Tangible returns can be measured in economic development; improved veteransâ health care and living conditions; greater public support and understanding of veteransâ needs; and growing support for state/federal policy changes that directly benefit veterans, military service personnel, and their respective families.
