As part of a planning effort to identify potential bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements in the vicinity of Niwot Elementary School (NES), Boulder County Transportation and NES staff identified an existing gap in the walk and bike network on Morton Road in front of the elementary school. Boulder County Transportation staff worked with school staff and neighbors to design and implement a pilot “Cycletrack,” which is a striped and signed multi-use path protected from adjacent vehicular traffic by a double-white stripe and a row of flexible delineator posts. This project has provided a safe walking and biking option on the last neighborhood block for students walking and biking to NES, improving both perceived and actual safety, and increasing the number of students, parents, and staff walking and biking to Niwot Elementary.
