Like many communities across the country, Harford County has witnessed a decline in the number of people serving as volunteer fire and EMS personnel. These volunteer personnel are critical to the health, safety and well-being of county residents and an integral partner in the public safety community. Harford County relies entirely on its volunteers operating in 12 volunteer programs countywide. In an effort to support fire company retention efforts and recruit new members, Harford County Government has established the Harford County NEXT GEN Responder Student Loan Relief Program for Volunteer Fire and EMS Members. This program serves to benefit the volunteer fire service in an effort to retain our current County fire and EMS volunteers who have student loan debt and as a tool to recruit new volunteers to public service.
