About the Program
Category: Volunteers (Best in Category)
Year: 2017
The new OC Parks Volunteer Program was developed to engage volunteers and enhance the visitor experience. The OC Parks Volunteer Program provides a professional level training, managing and tracking system to over 800 volunteers spanning 26 different park facilities, covering 60,000 acres of open space and park land. The ability for community members to connect with their local parks creates a pride in ownership and a stewardship mentality which improves the parks and engages the community. Volunteers play a critical role in providing opportunities and participation for park visitors, for example opening nature centers, providing guided hikes and themed activities. With a professional and standardized volunteer program, volunteers can feel empowered to make a difference at the parks and in the community.
