In Montgomery County, Ohio, small businesses are essential to the vitality of its economy. To help facilitate the growth and development of small businesses, the Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners developed the MicroEnterprise Demonstration Grant program in late 2016. This program assists small, for-profit companies in growing their businesses through grant funding and business development services provided by collaborating economic development agencies. Funds are allocated to small businesses with limited access to capital with a focus on businesses owned by minorities, women and/or veterans. Targeted sectors include manufacturing, retail, transportation, childcare, and the service industry. As a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) entitlement community, Montgomery County can use CDBG as a funding source for the MicroEnterprise Demonstration Grant program. Program applicants are able to request grant funds ranging from $2,500 - $25,000, and are required to provide a ten percent (10%) cash match. Businesses must be located within Montgomery County, be current on their taxes, and have less than five employees. They must also have an annual sales revenue of $500,000 or less, be in businesses for a minimum of 12 months, and not be a second-income or home-based business.
