The Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Technobus is a mobile technology learning center focused on narrowing the digital divide in high-need communities throughout Miami-Dade County. This vehicle brings instruction and digital services directly to the community. During the morning, classes are often focused on introducing seniors to the use of computers and assisting unemployed adults in obtaining the computer skills needed to re-enter the workforce. During the afternoons, the vehicle often visits after-school programs where teens explore their creativity while developing important digital skills. The Technobus is a 37-foot bus-style vehicle able to accommodate 11 students and two instructors at a time. Classes are conducted on both Mac and Windows platforms using MacBook Airs, iPads, and Surface Pro tablets. This rich learning environment with Wi-Fi Internet access also offers its users popular software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, Virtual DJ, and more. Also offered are coding and programming activities using Cool Circuits, Snap Circuits, Little Bits and other STEAM kits. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) The Technobus provides classes in digital photography, music production, filmmaking and graphic design using GoPro and Canon PowerShot cameras, digital pianos, and high tech drones.
