The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) Fine Arts Division created a unique and stunning memorial at Miami International Airport (MIA) for 121 military service men and women from South Florida who gave their lives while serving in the global war on terrorism since September 11, 2001. The 51-foot long, three-panel monument bears the names of the fallen, etched in sobering black granite. One panel of the monument, displays a monitor where a film depicts the families of the military heroes remembering their loved ones. Five days before Memorial Day, MDAD hosted a dedication ceremony for the new MIA Wall of Honor memorial. More than 100 family members and friends of the fallen service members, representatives from the South Florida military community, four media outlets, and airport and government officials were in attendance to view the wall for the first time.
