MI Great Artist: Visual Art Competition -- An Initiative of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. The MI Great Artist is one of Oakland County’s premier quality of life events. County Executive L. Brooks Patterson began the competition, in 2012, to promote the Oakland County and encourage creativity in the residents who live, work or attend school in the Economic Growth Alliance region of six counties: Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair. MI Great Artist is an online art competition for visual artists 18 years+, creating 2-D works. Entrants were able to upload up to five images and descriptions of their work for public voting. From the top twenty artists, a 7-member jury of arts professionals selected five semi-finalists. The winner was selected by a combination of jury score and public vote.
