Mecklenburg County’s Information Services and technology (IST) Department created an automated rewards and recognition system that allows employees to recognize each other for achievements in the following categories: Outstanding Customer Service, Outstanding Service Delivery, Outstanding Performance, Significant Contributions to Culture Change, and Creativity and Innovation. iSTar allows employees to nominate their co-workers, view awards received from co-workers, track points earned, and earn prizes. At the date of submission, 128 employees had used iSTar to recognize their co-workers for outstanding achievements. Sixty-two employees have earned vacation time through the program and the site has received over 23,000 hits. The program has been a tremendous success and has placed the spotlight on employee achievements in the department.
