The Gwinnett County (GA) Senior Services division is working with the Coalition for Health and Human Services, Garden Plaza, and the Gwinnett University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service to provide free Lunch and Learn seminars for family caregivers who are balancing those responsibilities with current employment. We bring a team of experts who are caregivers themselves or who work with family caregivers to local businesses to meet with interested employees who are dealing with the challenges of working while being responsible for the care of a parent, spouse, child, or other relative who is ill, frail, or disabled. Topics for discussion include: • caregiver roles and responsibilities • 10 considerations to help a caregiver know when to get more involved • Caregiver Bill of Rights for caregivers in the workplace • how to be a better-prepared caregiver when disaster strikes • information on Kinship Care • resources for caregivers to persons with mental illness, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease • an extensive list of websites and telephone resources Each participant receives an information packet on the above topics and gets an opportunity to ask questions about their particular situation as part of the session. Gwinnett Senior Services partners with a local retirement community to provide lunch for the participants.
