Spotsylvania County, Va., VA

About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Innovative Stormwater Management has been expanded in the county from a token 10% of proposed projects featuring some Low Impact Development (LID) to approximately 98% for new projects using LID designs. The county observes the use of natural tendencies to infiltrate (or re-infiltrate) water as nature had been doing before any form of land disturbance occurred. The use of innovative practices has created many unconventional alternatives to the traditional facilities offered in many stormwater design standards. This need has presented the County with a new education and outreach program that can be adaptable with any locality.
