Forrest County, Mississippi has found a way to honor the history of a once vibrant railroad system that was a true service to the community. As the rail systems dwindled nationwide, many tracks became barren. In Forrest County, by preserving the footprint of the rail system, the Longleaf trace Rails-Trails program has offered immeasurable benefits back to the area. This trail has revitalized the community and continues to be the conduit that literally connects-the-dots for many entertainment and educational venues in Forrest County, including the old Train Depot, the Zoo, and the soon-to-be University. This is more than just a walking trail; with horseback riding, roller-blading, jogging, walking, and biking, this venue was designed to offer something special for everyone and has been an enormous success.
