Year: 2011
Broward county Libraryâs Literacy Help Center (LHC) was created in 2009 to provide youth and adults in underserved areas with literacy improvement opportunities and increase the use of and access to computer technology through programs such as afterschool homework help, English classes for speakers of other languages, and computer technology classes. In 2010, the program was expanded from one Broward County Library location to four. The LHC targets neighborhoods with the greatest demand in their libraries and therefore the greatest need for supplemental programs and services, especially access to technology. Children and adults who utilize the services offered by the LHC have the opportunity to receive quality homework help and reading instruction, improve their English language proficiency, and learn new skills on the computer. The gain life-changing skills that make them better able to achieve academic success.
