Legacy Corps matches a volunteer member of AmeriCorps with a veteran or military family to provide rest, relief and support for caregivers. Families range from older veterans dealing with dementia to active duty families needing child care. Volunteers commit to 450 hours of service in a 12-month period, including up to 90 hours of training. During their service, members receive a monthly living allowance. If they successfully complete their service goal, they also receive an educational award toward higher education. Anyone 17 or older may apply to become a Legacy Corps member, although we target veterans transitioning into civilian life. Members range from younger students and active-duty military to retirees.
