For over fifteen years, the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department (JSD) has served at-risk and arrested youth in Miami-Dade. National employment trends indicates that there is a lack of job opportunities for inner city at-risk youth. For this reason, JSD created a Job Development Program-Trends for Success- with the ultimate goal of changing at-risk behaviors by connecting these youth to job opportunities. The Program, which represents a collaborative effort with Adults Mankind through CareerSource South Florida and Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces was created in September 2014. Trends for Success is designed to deter youth from entering the Juvenile Justice System and assist in the development of productive future citizens. This is a comprehensive program that provides youth with a continuum of job readiness services including resume building, interviewing skills development, paid internships, career counseling, and job placement. But the program goes even further by providing âbusiness attireâ for participants. Other success oriented services include College tours, through local Colleges and Financial Planning through a partnership with Wells Fargo. To date, almost 100 at risk youth have benefited from this collaborative and creative effort that addresses their unmet needs.
