Mecklenburg County developed Interactive Review to assist projects with minor code issues to be approved in the first cycle of review. The key features of Interactive Review are that it allows the Architect, Engineer, Designer, and Plans Examiner to discuss minor code issues discovered during the initial review of the project. It also allows the Architect, Engineer, or Designer an opportunity to correct these issues through an email with pdf’s attached that can be secured to the drawing to quickly resolve the issue. This ability keeps the project from having to be resubmitted for a 2nd cycle review, which allows for less time in plan review which means a more expedient timeline to permit issuance. This moves the project into the field more quickly allowing construction to begin. This also reduces the number of staff hours needed to handle the project through the system a second time, freeing time for new projects being submitted and reducing lead times for plan review.
